Today/Tonite: Santogold And/Or Celebration

July 20, 2008 – 4:55 am

Santogold has some buzz around her these days and you won’t get a better chance to explore her vibe than a free show in Central Park. This evening more doughless goodness with Celebration who get no points for their name but plenty for their performances. Music Hall of Williamsburg is the venue for them.
Here’s Santogold:

  1. One Response to “Today/Tonite: Santogold And/Or Celebration”

  2. Here’s my reaction from the Steve Miller Band / Joe Cocker concert at Radio City on 7/10:

Joe Cocker was spot on. He was born to sing with raspy, technical precision and anguished emotion, giving a fragility to every song he sang that night. Hrought the house to utter silence with “You Are So Beautiful” and “Cockerized” the cover “Come Together” so that it has become my favorite version after the oriiginal. In all, he hit every note head on and staccato style. I just love how he plays with every note.

Steve Miller Band was a slight disappointment, but overall, I can’t (and shouldn’t!) diss a band who evokes my formative years and rocks with the blues, rap, and good ol’ rock and roll. He blew so quickly past his oldies that it was obvious he wanted to get to his new stuff (very nice!). At least “Serenade” he babyed - blew me away, as always. He needs a smaller venue for the new stuff, so perhaps CA is the place to catch him?!
